Project Leadership and Management Consulting
|
Using a disciplined approach to Project Management, we can help and if necessary lead you in managing the development and implementation of change and innovative initiatives in your organization - essential aspects in maximizing your opportunities.
How We Can Help? Adopting project management within organizations leads to better strategic decision-making and provides a basis for confidence that strategic objectives will be achieved. It insures that projects reflect the business plan. And there are organizational benefits such as improved resource utilization and morale resulting from the more structured and proactive environment that is integral to the project management approach. Our clients are able to approach their projects confident in their expectations for successful outcomes.
Project management thrives in a culture of accountability. Adopting our style of project management promotes that culture. Depending on your needs, we may utilize any of the following three approaches:
- Management
In this capacity, we take the helm of the project. We will direct and participate in the development of a comprehensive project plan, and manage execution and control of the project through to formal project closure.
Our preference is to be engaged at the initial stages of project authorization, as this can be the most critical period in a project. It is what we call the initiation process during which project justification is established and the project product is clearly defined. We facilitate a candid discussion about the project product and objectives; constraints and assumptions; the major deliverables; project success criteria; and high level resource requirements, particularly financial resources.
- Mentoring
For those clients who have a project management system in place and want to improve the process and the skills of their project managers, we offer an onsite mentoring workshop. The workshop is structured to be interactive with the project manager and selected team members. By facilitating the review of an actual project using probing questions, the practices that are well done as well as those that could become problematic are identified. A brief report outlining the findings is provided. This is an outstanding method for improving the skill of project managers and team members and will raise the maturity level of the entire project management system.
- Methodology
Businesses lacking a project management system but who recognize the benefits of management by projects and are committed to adopting the accountability culture of project management, can benefit from the implementation of a customized methodology tailored to their type of business environment.
The system would be designed and implemented in stages based on mutually assessed priorities, projects that may be in progress or potential projects.
The process involves a combination of class room instruction followed by implementation on actual client projects. As with all of our project work, we always include an auditing / evaluation phase which assesses the effectiveness and performance of the system implementation and identifies deficiencies and corrective action. To discuss how the accountability culture can help your business, Contact Us or go to our Case Studies page to review details of how it has helped our clients. Don't forget to check out our PM Scorecard in the Free Resources page.

Process Engineering
|
Our Process Engineering service provides targeted technical support and expertise for manufacturing and production operations related projects. All engineering initiatives are guided by our project management structure.
How We Can Help?
- Program Management for Technology Transfer and Integration
Transitioning developmental process technology and products to viable commercial products is the lifeblood of the competitive marketplace. Our depth of experience and expertise allows us to support this vital function through a comprehensive spectrum of process engineering capabilities. For example, typically an engagement will require an integrated engineering package from specification development through process equipment installation, startup and production certification.
- Feasibility studies and technical audits
For clients whose operations are not fulfilling performance objectives and need to understand options and alternatives in order to improve their competitive position, we can assess equipment and process technology and develop recommendations with programs for upgrades, replacement and enhanced preventive maintenance. This output then provides a solid, quantitative basis for decision making on projects associated with this operational area.
- Process Upgrades & Capital Programs
Where client expertise or resources are lacking for major capital intensive programs such as facility expansions, we can provide the necessary technical leadership. With extensive experience in process design, development, and operations, we can address a comprehesive range of process engineering requirements such as equipment layout; user and functional specification development; P&ID development including hydraulic systems design and specification of instrumentation and control requirements. We follow-up the design and development activities with on-site management of equipment installation and hands-on participation in process startup and debug.
- Facilities Engineering
Based on our strengths in process engineering and manufacturing operations, we can lead an improvement initiative for the personnel, procedures and process technology of your operation. With extensive hands-on experience in troubleshooting hydraulics, instrumentation and control systems, we can impart knowledge where applicable as well as take a leadership role in ascertaining and minimizing production downtime conditions. Control Systems Engineering

Successful plant-floor control integrations require a thorough analysis of the process control requirements. But robust and reliable solutions also require the hardware, software and startup expertise for effective integration with the design. We pay meticulous attention to all these factors in order to assure that our clients receive the best possible control system solution.

How We Can Help!
|
Our control system solutions range from equipment retrofits to total plant-wide solutions using a broad range of industrial processors and computers and employing the latest control technologies. For example:
- Retrofit solutions can be localized at the machine level, designed to control a process cell, or integrated to encompass an entire production environment.
- Integration of machine controls requiring dedicated electrohydraulic and/or AC/DC drive controls.
- Design, specification and integration of hydraulic solutions using hydraulic and electrohydraulic components supplied by all the major fluid power manufactures. The total solution includes interfacing, programming and commissioning the industrial processor and its I/O to the hydraulic components.
- Design and implementation of complete production monitoring, data acquisition, inventory and part management systems, and statistical process control packages.

His project plan kept the momentum for completion moving. Additionally, Rob was able to identify and coordinate key outside services to close the technical loop. Project schedules and cost status were clearly and regularly communicated to upper management. Rob's ability to integrate engineering expertise with attention to detail and a disciplined project management approach led to meeting the agreed upon objectives and successful completion of this facility.
